Oh, Creative Directors…!
Espresso’s Toronto office is seeking a super smart (like numbers and ideas are equally compelling), crazy organized (like people think it’s a bit compulsive), and driven (like a cab on New Year’s Eve) type to fill a leading role in our creative team.
As a Creative Director, our future bean will have about fifteen years of experience and be responsible for overseeing a portfolio of accounts. You have a stellar understanding of ideation and brand, and are willing to do pretty much anything to bring something deliciously clever to market. You’ve worked in media both traditional and not, and strategy comes first nature. You get that even the most fun kind of work involves work, consider putting in the hours an obvious necessity, and easily deal with change. You think well beyond what’s asked of you, live and breathe the minutiae of the work. You focus your conceptual efforts on business results and your relationship efforts on making clients feel like you just put a ring on it. You embrace the crazy – and take it as a challenge to make things better – without a second thought. Oh. And you’re a pretty nice person on top of it all.
So let’s get into the details.
The Day to Day
- Team and studio management
- Ensuring quality of work across portfolio of clients
- Knowledgeable of your brands, their marketplace, special challenges, and category/industry competition
- Stay ahead of trends and events that affect brand relationships
- Manage creative conception, development and communication
- Contribute to creative execution among clients that are not necessarily in your portfolio
- Presentation of developing concepts and completed creative solutions to clients
- Coordinating with the creative director and team managers
- Project leadership, work critique and final approval of creative deliverables
- Introduction of new and innovative ideas for creative execution
- Lead more junior team members in the development of strategic creative solutions
- Contribute to strong team dynamic by modeling creative excellence and demonstrating integrity in the work
The Background
- 15 years of related work experience
- Proven ability to mentor others
- Proven ability to manage studio and workflow
- Ability to execute presentations using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign and other essential programs.
- Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills
- Ability to present creative ideas in a confident and easily understood manner
- An ability to balance compelling, creative ideas with advanced direct and digital marketing principles
- Good understanding of the production process as it relates to the various forms of media
- Possess excellent creative judgement and strategic skills
- To be a challenger and debater of creative – more than a sounding board
Outside the obviousness of the role itself, we are seeking someone who falls in love with ideas, who thrives on learning more and thinking smarter. Someone who lives and breathes emerging marketing trends. Someone who thinks that heaven is in the details. Someone who embraces the exclusion of ego like it’s a personal science. Oh yeah, and previous agency experience is pretty much a must.
Think that’s you? Send a resume and cover letter noting your salary expectation to creativejobs [at] espressoagency.com. Only those on whom we develop preliminary professional crushes will be contacted.
